OBITUARY
Yvonne Marjorie Floris also known as Yvonne Cossiah departed this earth on Wednesday March 21st, 2012 at Brookdale Hospital. Yvonne was the beloved daughter of Kathleen Hyacinth Floris and the late Edward Cossiah.
Yvonne loved her country Guyana and most of all New Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice where she did secretarial studies at Mr. Nelson and Grant’s Commercial school. Yvonne was later employed at the Regional office in New Amsterdam where she worked for over twenty five years before retiring in the year 2000. She had a passion for the culinary arts and she shared these skills with all whom she came into contact with. She always encouraged the younger generation to become interested in cooking, and baking also crocheting as she would often say to them “Come over and let me teach you how to do these things.”
Yvonne migrated to the U.S.A. in September 2009 to join her mother, sister and brother. In doing so, she left her only daughter Sharon and grandson Kevaun behind to take this great adventure. She was not an adventurous person so this transition was sometimes difficult for her.
Yvonne was an ardent Christian. She belonged to the Anglican Body and was a member of All Saints Anglican choir. She supported her church in any way she could and at the same time maintaining her spiritual upbringing, which she embraced from a young age.
Yvonne supported her family and friends in her own subtle way by sharing her love and humorous side whenever that opportunity presented itself. She was always a caring person and loved to socialize and entertain.
Yvonne departed this life quite peacefully when the Lord said to her come home your humble servant come home. Her desire and wishes were always to return to Guyana even though she was always curious about the snow falling which she often referred to as “The White thing.” We will always remember the fun times we spent with her.
Yvonne has left to mourn her adorable and loving daughter Sharon McPherson, her mother Kathleen and her grandson Kevaun. Her only sister and brother, Dr. Claire Floris-Wilson and Philip Aubrey Cossiah. Nephews Alwin and Christopher, nieces Natasha, Ashley, Melinda, and Jonelle. Great aunt of Jennaya and two others. Cousins Lynette, Winston, Compton, Colin, the Bender’s and others. Friends of the Wynter’s, Nora, Karen, Beryl Murray and others. May her soul rest in peace.
