St Therese primary played unbeaten top come out on top in the boys version and All Saints Primary won the girls edition when the fourth and second editions of the annual Godfrey ‘Half man’ Eleazor Inter Primary School five-a-side football tournament for Primary schools in New Amsterdam was played recently at the All Saints Scott Church ground Princess Elizabeth road in New Amsterdam.
Six schools participated in the boys’ edition, while two competed on the distaff side.
In the male category, the schools were divided into two groups with Group A comprising of All Saints, St Aloysius and Overwinning Primaries, while Group B was made up of St Therese and N.A Primaries and School of the Nations. Each team in the respective groups were required to play each other once with the top team from the respective groups advancing to play in the finals.
Results of matches played were: Overwinning squeezed past All Saints Primary 2-1 with Deon Swami and Malvin Harrinarine netting for the winners, while Stephon Alexander scored for the losers.
St Therese primary got the better of School of the Nations 2-0, goals off the boot of a Nixon Cadogan.
All Saints then edged out St Aloysius Primary 2-1. Kevin Hamilton and Glenroy Henry scored for the winners, while Junior Williams scored for the losing team.
Chad Henry hit home a double to guide School of the Nations to a 2-0 victory over N.A primary in their encounter. St Therese Primary through a double from Dwayne Alleyne and one from Terrence Simpson then registered the biggest margin of victory with a 3-0 whipping of N.A primary. In the Final preliminary game St Aloysius and Overwinning primaries played to a 0-0 stalemate.
In the final, St Therese Primary continued their rampage; led by the prolific Dwayne Alleyne with his second double strike, beating Overwinning primary 3-0. Nixon Cadogan scored the other goal for the winners.
In the female competition, the two schools which participated were All Saints and St Aloysius Primaries. They engaged each other in a two match encounter with All Saints Primary through a Beverly Agard goal winning the first match 1-0. The second game ended in a 0-0 draw.
In the presentation which followed St Therese Primary received the winning Godfrey ‘Half man’ Eleazor Cup. The Second prize went to Overwinning primary.
A number of individual awards were also presented to outstanding performers among them were Dwayne Alleyne of St Therese for scoring the most goals (4) he received one medal, one jersey and one shorts.
Four other players were awarded for their outstanding play, they were Chad Henry of School of the Nations; Nixon Cadogan of St Therese Primary; Deon Swami of Overwinning primary and Colvis Burnett St Therese, they all collected one medal, one jersey and one shorts.
In the female category, All Saints Primary received the winning Godfrey ‘Half man’ Eleazor Cup for winning, while St Aloysius received one for placing second.
The individual awards went to Beverly Agard – All Saints for scoring the only goal; Goalkeepers Mitchell Sampson of All Saints and Stacey Samuels of St Aloysius. Outstanding players were Adriana Jeffery -All Saints primary, Munic Baduram and Shaina Barth both of St Aloysius Primary. They all received one medal, one jersey and one pair shorts each.The competition was coordinated by former national Player Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and Nigel ‘Busit’ Felix. The competition was sponsored by the Eleazor family in collaboration with the Hearts of Oak Masters Football club.
Relative Olive Dey assisted with the presentation of the prizes and gave the family commitment that they will continue to sponsor the tournament. (Samuel Whyte)
