J. C. Chandisingh Secondary School was triumphant in the male tournament with Canje Secondary stealing top honors among the female teams.
Teams competed first using the round-robin format with the top performers advancing to the knockout stage. Ten teams participated in the one-day competition with some schools fielding more than one team.
Berbice High School ‘A’ and ‘B’, Canje Secondary School ‘A’ and ‘B’, Tutorial Academy, New Amsterdam Multilateral, Lower Corentyne Secondary, and JC Chandisingh Secondary were the male competitors while on the distaff side, Tutorial Academy and Canje Secondary went head to head.
In male rivalry, Chandisingh Sec. defeated Canje Sec. ‘A’ 15-7 in a one set game to take the top prize while in the third place play off Lower Corentyne got the better of Canje ‘B’ 9-7 in a shortened game.
In the female match-up, Canje Secondary disposed of Tutorial Academy 25-14.
The top three finishers in the male category and both female teams received trophies for their efforts.
The outstanding individuals who were also rewarded were Kathleen Victor and Angela DeJonge in the female category. The male MVP was Sanjay Bamsingh, Javed Motipersaud was adjudged the best Spiker; Rohan Balkarran – best Setter with Travis Jaggernauth as the best Server.
President of the BVA, Gregory Rambarran, in remarks thanked the head teachers for allowing their respective schools to participate. He also thanked the Education and Sports departments for helping to facilitate the tournament which was jointly sponsored by the National Sports Commission (NSC)/ Ministry of Education Allied Arts Unit and the Berbice Volleyball Association.
