The Berbice ‘B’ Division of the Guyana Police Force and more so the Central Police station continue with its community outreach initiative with the formation of two youth clubs in the division as it leads the way in the Guyana Police Force, community and Police outreach programme and enhancement drive.

According to officer in charge of police Number One sub division in Berbice, Assistant Superintendent Rishi Dass, youth clubs were established at Angoy’s Avenue (Cow Dam)in the New Amsterdam area and in East Canje, which also comes under the supervision of the Reliance Police Station.
According to Dass, there are many reasons why the youth clubs were formed; among them, to take youths off the street and instill discipline in them.  He stated that society nowadays is plagued with a lot of social and other ills and that the police force is bent on playing its part.
The initiative, he hoped, will help to reduce crime in the areas.
He said that it all comes with the paradigm that the police force must do things differently.
Dass, along with his deputy, Inspector Dereck Springer, were both recently posted to the area along with police outreach point man, Sergeant Jairam Ramlakhan of the Central Police station. They have already undertaken some new initiatives and projects which they hope will enhance the police/community relationship.
Two new community policing groups were also formed at Betsy Ground and Goed Bananen Land in the East Canje Area.
